Día Seis de Allie

¡Hola! Today was so much fun; however, it came with an unexpected twist. To start off the day, Sarah and I went to the café by the university before class and bought croissants (SO GOOD!!) and coffee before heading off to our first class of the day. After school, which ends at 1 p.m., we walked to the beautiful house of Spanish author Miguel de Unamuno... in the pouring rain! However, this minor set back did not stop us from learning about the accomplished writer. My favorite part of his home was the extensive library filled with English, Spanish, Italian, French, and Portuguese literature. After the tour, Sarah and I returned to our house to eat lunch with our host Marta and take a siesta!! In the night, instead of rowing we went to the shopping mall five minutes outside of the city. The mall was packed with people just like us trying to stay dry and out of the rain! After the mall, we went home and ate dinner. I cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings here in this beautiful and historic city. ¡Hasta Luego!

I came to Spain with so many goals and things I wanted to do, and looking back at the trip I really accomplished everything that I hoped I would.  I learned so much about Spanish culture not only from the class we took at the University but because I lived it for two weeks.  I got to experience what it's really like to live in Spain while also studying there and learning the language better.  My skills have improved so much in Spanish.  I used to never want to talk in Spanish because I thought my accent and pronunciation were off and I made so many mistakes and couldn't always say what I wanted to say, but now I feel comfortable enough that I spoke to someone in Spanish here that didn't speak English well.  Even though I learned so much in Spain, it didn't feel like a school trip.  We were given freedom to explore Salamanca and see places that the school didn't take us to which I really appreciated even though I enjoyed the school trips.  I'm so glad I...
