Day 13- Sophia

Hello friends and family!!
Today was yet another day of fun adventures in Spain! I enjoyed school a lot more today now that we are finished with exams. I love that every class is completely in Spanish and that there is so much participation among students. I can really see how much being immersed in the Spanish culture and language has improved my Spanish. Today in culture class  we were all rewarded with a delicious Spanish "dulce." After class today, my roommate Sydney and I went to enjoy some authentic Spanish tapas since we are coming to the end of the trip. Sydney and I went to a popular cafe in Plaza Mayor to enjoy the Spanish version of calamari. It was a lot more chewy than the American version because the calamari was in big peices with little breading, but it was so fresh. I love the environment of Spain and that wherever you are whenever you are you are always surrounded by lots of conversation, laughs, and smiles. I have very much enjoyed "Plaza Mayor" which is at the center of Salamanca because it is always  filled with people and often at night there is music not to mention the many cafes and gelato places!!!
Our activity today was paddle boating in the Rio River which I very much enjoyed!! This activity was the perfect balance of relaxation and fun not to mention the outstanding view. My group paddled out to the middle of the lake, and then just sat in our boat talking and listening to music with our feet dangling in the water. I'm sure this will be a memory I will never forget. Honestly, how much better can it get? I am in an amazing place with amazing people! The walk to the lake was also gorgeous! I also am feeling very comfortable with my surroundings here, and I definitely know my way around which is one of the many perks of being in a small city. On our way home, Sydney and I stopped for a good old American coke at McDonald's which really hit the spot on this particularly hot day. One of my favorite parts of the trip so far is being able to compare the Spanish culture to American culture. I love seeing all the similarities and differences. Being in a different culture really teaches you so much about yourself as you try new things and continue to discover what you like and dislike.
Hasta luego!
