Jenna Cortez: Salamanca Day 1

Bienvenido a Espana! We arrived in Madrid at around 9 AM local time. The people who worked at customs were very nice and I got to practice speaking Spanish for the first time in Madrid. I made a new friend, Fabian, who was traveling from Chile all the way to Amsterdam. He was very kind and interesting and I liked getting to converse with another traveler. After getting my bag, we boarded a bus to go to Salamanca. The bus ride over was beautiful; Ellie and I were amazed by the different landscapes and architecture. We arrived in Salamanca about two hours later and met our host mom, Basi. Basi was very welcoming and she brought one of her daughters to help us with our suitcases. Basi gave us a tour of her house; it is a very tidy and cute apartment on the 6th floor. Basi's house has a great view of the streets and buildings, and it is also very close to La Plaza Mayor. After settling in, Ellie and I ate the lunch that Basi had made. It was definitely one of the best meals I have ever had; everything tasted so fresh and there was a wide variety of food. After lunch, we took a long siesta and  then headed down to La Plaza Mayor to meet with the other girls. I was amazed by how many people were in the plaza, and I really liked how the surrounding environment felt. The whole group went to the API building to learn more about our schedule and our classes. Then, we walked around and explored the plaza more. We went and got ice cream at a small shop on the plaza and it was delicious. Afterwards, we went back to the main part of the plaza and I made some more friends. They were from Ireland and they told us they were taking Spanish classes here as well. Later we returned home and ate another amazing meal before going to bed. Overall, my first day in Spain was very eventful and exciting. I learned a lot and made some unforgettable memories.
